Les Brost is a third generation owner/operator of a large successful family ranch in southeastern Alberta. His practical approach to problem solving grew out of his years as a rancher.
Les spent 15 years as an elected public school trustee. His extensive work to further public education resulted in an honorary life membership in the Alberta School Boards Association. His experience as an elected politician gives him great insight into the demands and challenges faced by elected officials.
In 2002, Alberta’s Minister of Agriculture and the Alberta Agriculture and Food Council selected Les to lead the Agrivantage Team, which charted a strategic path for the future evolution of Alberta’s agriculture industry.
Over the past three decades, Les has volunteered with numerous local, provincial, and national organizations, giving him first hand insight into organizational dynamics and demands at all levels.
Les is a professional writer who has won two national awards for his outstanding columns on agriculture and rural development. He was most recently a columnist for the Calgary Herald.
The skill-sets and training Les absorbed from the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society and the Rockwood Leadership Institute have been invaluable in his personal coaching practice. He is an empathetic yet challenging coach who sees and maximizes client potential.
Les Brost is a trained mediator, strategic planning facilitator, conflict management specialist, and personal coach with corporate clients, municipalities, provincial and federal government ministries, trade associations, and NGO-NFP organizations. Les’ leadership role in government, corporate, and non-profit boardrooms gives him a unique perspective on problem solving and building organizational effectiveness.
He was member of Edmontonians Magazine’s “Transformers”- a quartet of personal and organizational change agents working with the Edmonton business community and featured on CITY-TV in Edmonton.
He and his life partner Barb moved to Salt Spring Island in May of 2010. He is currently re-establishing his professional practice while serving as a volunteer and Board Member of the Salt Spring Island Public Library.
